Sandy Mendler is a nationally recognized sustainable design leader focused on the challenge of creating inspiring places for sustainable living. She is an architect with over 25 years of design experience in diverse building types and planning projects; four of which have been recognized as AIA Top Ten Green projects of the year. Her research, writing, and project work advances a holistic design agenda to the neighborhood scale integrating high performance green buildings with natural systems, an engaging public realm and advanced infrastructure solutions to achieve rigorous sustainability targets. She embraces use of clear performance metrics and financial analysis to demonstrate project value.
Sandy is a principal with Mithun in San Francisco, an innovative, award winning architecture, interior design and planning firm with a deep commitment to integrated sustainable design. An active member of SPUR and the US Green Building Council, she has recently served on the board of directors of the national USGBC and is a past chair of the national AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE). Widely published in print and on the internet; she serves on numerous expert panels and speaks often at conferences and industry events.
